Happy Birthday Rick!

It only seems like yesterday that I was sending out positive vibes for Mr Meint’s birthday.  So here we are again, beaming out joy to the guy who does the layout on such wonderful books like the new Pavis: Gateway to Adventure.

Have an Awesome day Sir! :)

Kingdom of the Flamesword

Without much fan-fare Jamie “Trotsky” Revell’s Kingdom of the Flamesword, his companion book to the Book of Glorious Joy, about the Western Kingdom of Seshnela has been published as a no-art 214 page pdf.

Here’s what Jamie has to say about it:

Some of you may recall that, in addition to the Book of Glorious Joy, I was also commissioned by Issaries to write a similar book on Seshnela and the Rokari. That fell through, as ideas of what Seshnela should be changed. In the none-to-distant future, Issaries/Moon Design will be publishing the Guide to Glorantha which will include the new, canonical view of Seshnela, and we both agree that it’s important for any release of my material not to clash with that.

There was a hope that it might be published in some dead-tree format, but that’s all stalled, and I’ve had no reply to e-mails. So, since I do have permission from Issaries to post the material free-of-charge to my website (so long as certain legal disclaimers are included), and in the interests of not clashing with the release of official publications, that’s what I’ve done.

If you liked the Book of Glorious Joy, and wondered what I made of Seshnela, you can find my thoughts here. As always, the non-canonical nature of the work must be stressed, and no challenges to copyrights or trademarks are intended – this is just fan material, nothing more and nothing less. It will certainly be contradicted in official works, and, if that matters to you, this won’t be of much use. It’s also worth noting that at least some of it still written for HQ1, which was the current edition at the time, and may put some people off.

But otherwise – well, hopefully it will be useful to someone.

Returning from D&D land

Hi all

I’ve been visiting our cousins in D&D land. Did you get that postcard I sent you?  Its been an exciting time, and I will be disappearing off for wild weekends once in a while with my new friends in the OSR Blogsphere, but work must commence on Hearts in Glorantha #5 and Gloranthan Adventures #2!

Still working off the hangover from all that Old School Grog those fans of GaryGygax swill, but will post new stuff soon.

Have I missed anything?

All the Best

A little Lunar reading

A video-post this one. In prepration for finishing off Gloranthan Adventures 2 Red Sun Rising, I thought it be fun to dig out the small pile of books I have on the Lunar Empire/Dara Happan empire. So up into the attic I went and these short videos run through what I found.

Part 1 (5.56 mins) Covers: Introduction to Glorantha (HeroWars), The Glorious Reacent of Yelm The Fortunate Succession, The Entekosiad, Champions of the Red Moon.

Part 2 (7.16 mins) Covers: Shreads of Light and Reason, Dara Happa Stirs, Sun County, The Unspoken Word’s Map of the Lunar Empire.

Note to Gloranthan Pedants: Yup I may get some of the details, such as creditation, wrong but hey I was runnning from memory. I will post any corrections at the bottom of this post. Also yes I’m missing a few titles, they’re in storage at my mother’s at present ;)

Note to Gloranthan New commers : Don’t worry you don’t need all these books to run/understand Red Sun Rising. I’m rereading them to make sure RSR is not too jarring with ‘accepted’ cannon and so I can slot in the fun bits :)

On its way…..

Going to be busy over the next month or two getting the next issue of Hearts in Glorantha and Gloranthan adventures #2 together.

HiG issue 5 is well into production. I’ve already had some of the Art submitted, which I’ll preview soon, the cover is being worked on, the proofing is underway. Looking at a late November/early Dec release on this one.

Gloranthan Adventures #2 Red Sun Rising will be next up. I’m currently going through my draft and filling in the gaps and holes. To this end I got out a whole pile of books which cover or touch on the Lunar Empire.

And talking of reviews, its something I’ve been lax about of late so expect some of both official and fan publications in the coming weeks.

Dreaming of Pavis…

So the news has slipped out on the World of Glorantha Yahoo list that the Pavis book will be with us come Dragonmeet this November.  The second book, about the Big Rubble will follow shortly after.

On this day of looking after sick kids and doing never ending rounds of dishwashing (oh how I miss our dishwasher!), I find my mind drawn to simpler times in my early ventures into Glorantha via Pavis & The Rubble back in ’88.

My character, a low skill ranked hoodlum laden with debt to the fighter’s guild whose name I forget, ran the streets in Pavis.  Without realising he ended up in an Orlanthi revolt, running for his life after dark evading Seven Mothers initiates. He escaped the city, only to find himself in entering the Rubble via the People’s gate in search of the fabled Balastor’s Barracks with only the clothes on his back and the sword in his hand.  He never got there, spotting a couple of Broo on the horizon he made the ill advised move of preparing his Bladesharp spell. While this magic gave him the edge in a bloody and savage fight, he was slain when he went to loot the bodies and was attacked by a disease spirit that one of the Broo’s was carrying.

Happy days :)
